The locals have come out to supervise the moving of the meteorite, using large logs, smaller logs as rollers, and a vertical log in a hole used to winch the heavy load. The Willamette Meteorite is the largest meteorite found in North American and the sixth largest in the world. At the time this photo was taken, it was being moved from outside Willamette, Oregon, to a ship that would take it to be displayed at the Lewis and Clark Exposition in Portland.
