This 1867 view of the mills at Willamette Falls is part of a series of stereoviews created by Carleton Watkins during his visit to Oregon that year. Two new mills are featured. The Imperial Flour Mills were built in 1863 - 1864 and the Oregon Manufacturing Company (Oregon Woolen Mills) was established in 1864.
Also visible in this photo is the McLoughlin House at its original location, shown in detail view 1 on this side of the Imperial Mills. Forty-two years after this view was made, the house was moved up Singer Hill to its current location on top of the bluff.
