Young Lottie Ostby shares a meal with her grandparents, somewhere in the Portland area. In addition to tea, there appear to be several kinds of fruit and baked goods. While the meal is simple, the settings include a white tablecloth, a vase with flowers, and of course a teapot and tea cups.
Grandfather Engebret Ostby, a blacksmith, was born in Norway and came to the U.S. in 1868 with his wife Berte. He was to die shortly after this photo was taken, in 1902. Lottie herself was born in Minnesota, but the extended family had moved to Portland soon after her birth.
