Bonneville Dam and its associated locks brought huge changes to the Columbia River, as well as the rest of the Pacific Northwest. Photographer Ralph Eddy probably had to hike to this viewpoint to capture an overview of the project, perhaps guided by the young man who found himself included in the image. Like many photographers, Eddy was fascinated by the interplay between built structures and the natural world.
