This early photo of Mt. Hood from the south was taken by William H. Partridge during his short career in Oregon in the 1880s, before he headed back to the east coast. Note the cattle grazing on the far size of the meadow, visible in detail view 1. A small cabin can be seen in the midst of a stand of dead trees in detail view 2. The Barlow Trail south of Mt Hood was one of the main routes that early settlers took on their last stretch of the Oregon Trail, so views like this were familiar and meaningful to many in the 1800s. -- This photo is restored and printed by Old Oregon.
