The first building on the right is the 1868 Ladd and Bush Bank. The cross street is Commercial Street.
The bank building still stands today, in a somewhat altered form. In 1967 the interior was renovated, the building expanded on State Street and additional cast iron decorations from the demolished Ladd and Tilton Bank of Portland were applied on the exterior.
Behind the bank is the 11-story tall First National Bank Building, completed in 1927. Now known as the Capitol Tower, it is still the tallest office building in downtown Salem.
