We're looking downstream on the Snake River, several miles east of where the city of Twin Falls now stands. At the time this photo was taken, the city had not yet been started. This is the left (going downstream) of the Twin Falls. The right falls is hidden by the rock outcropping in the middle of the photo.
In 1890 there were a few small farms in the bottom of the canyon, but development at the top of the bluffs had not begun due to a lack of water. Twin Falls, the city, was platted in about 1905, after a dam and canal brought water to the upper lands for the first time. Click on Related Items below for a similar view taken in about 1915.
