Shoalwater Bay was an early name for what we now know as Willapa Bay in southwest Washington, separated from the Pacific by Long Beach Peninsula.
Shoalwater Bay was an early name for what we now know as Willapa Bay in southwest Washington, separated from the Pacific by Long Beach Peninsula. In this view staged by photographer Curtis, four dugout canoes have come to shore on the banks of the bay. I've been informed by someone who knows descendents of some of those pictured that they are primarily members of the Chinook Nation. This scene is in Bay Center, and the beach is known as Shipley Beach.
