A sternwheeler exits the newly completed locks on its way downstream. Opened in 1896, the Cascade Locks made travel through this part of the river much easier, especially when heading upstream. This photochrom view is a hybrid, made by directly transferring a photographic negative to lithographic stones. Each stone was then retouched to print a particular tint. The completed view required from six to eleven litho stones. -- This photo is restored and printed by Old Oregon.
