This is the railroad bridge across the mouth of Hood River that preceded the current steel bridge - itself now a very historic structure, having been completed in 1906.
This is the railroad bridge across the mouth of Hood River that preceded the current steel bridge - itself now a very historic structure, having been completed in 1906. Since the current bridge has lasted so long, photos of this earlier wooden bridge are hard to find.
It was probably completed about 1882 or 1883, when the railroad up the south side of the Columbia River was opened as one of the last sections of the northern path for the transcontinental railroad. We are looking west towards the town of Hood River.
