Business Section with Suspension Bridge, Oregon City - c. 1918
While this postcard view was postmarked 1923, we believe the photo was taken in the teens.
Dating old photos is always a challenge. We know this is from no later than 1923, due to the postmark and the fact that the suspension bridge was replaced by the arched bridge that same year. Identifying cars is a good strategy, but we see only one car in this view, parked in the bay in the building in the foreground. It does appear to be from the teens.
Another clue is the lack of paint on the wooden elevator, which was painted white sometime in the 1920s, but I'm not sure precisely when. I'll fall back on the fact that the postcard is labeled Number 7, and appears to be of the same series as another I have that is definitely from the teens and is labeled Number 10.
