There was plenty of fashion in Baker City in the 1880s, and Martin Hazeltine, the photographer, was sophisticated enough to capture it for us.

Accessible by coast-to-coast rail lines starting in 1884, by the late nineteenth century Baker City housed elegant restaurants and fine hotels, and the Baker Theater was often filled for road-show productions.
This unnamed woman must have been loved by the button makers, as I can count at least 32 large medallions decorating her dress. Note also the downy ends of her fan, visible in detail 2.
