This view of the ornate Marion County Courthouse in Salem is recreated from a hand-tinted "magic lantern" glass slide taken in about 1920. We are looking northwest at the corner of State and Church Streets.
This was the second of three courthouses for the county, all located on the same site. The first lasted from 1854 to 1873, this version from 1873 to 1952, and the current building was completed in 1954. Note the Great Western Garage can be seen in the left background on High Street.
