Guild's Lake in northwest Portland, now drained, became famous a few years after this photo when it was chosen for the site of the 1905 Lewis & Clark Exposition.
Guild's Lake in northwest Portland, now drained, became famous a few years after this photo when it was chosen for the site of the 1905 Lewis & Clark Exposition. In the foreground we see several houses and a bridge under construction; in 1902 the northwest hills were becoming one of the prime places to live in Portland.
In detail view 1, you can get a closer look at one of the houses in progress, as well as the skeleton of the new Thurman Street Bridge, crossing Balch Creek between Northwest 29th and Northwest 31st Avenues.
