An Ocean Liner passes through the opened bridge in September, 1931, about five years after the new Burnside Bridge was completed, replacing an 1894 swing-span version. Streetcars traveled the bridge until 1950, and detail view 2 shows a streetcar waiting for the ship to pass.
Also in that detail view can be seen a large Ira F. Powers billboard with its trademark duck on the east bank. The Powers Company was one of Portland's many furniture manufacturing concerns. Its factory and warehouse, located at 123 NE Third, still stands today, now known as the Eastside Exchange.
