The Molalla Buckaroo has been a continuing tradition for a century, beginning in 1913 when the railroad came to town. In 1936 photographer Arthur Rothstein documented it with at series of photos.
Here we see a performance of the Hoop Dance by a young man, probably from the Warm Springs reservation. The hoop dance is story-telling dance, and shapes are formed such as the butterfly, the eagle, the snake, and the coyote, with the hoop symbolizing the never-ending circle of life.
