William Hickam, who copyrighted this view, was known more as a jeweler and watch repairman than a photographer.
William Hickam, who copyrighted this view, was known more as a jeweler and watch repairman than a photographer. Nevertheless, he produced a few of these hand-tinted photos at the time Fred Kiser was popularizing colorized scenic views of Oregon.
Hickam's coloring is subtle, and perhaps his appreciation of sparkling ice is related to his work with fine gems in his day job.
