Detail view 2 reveals that the exterior siding for the lodge was still tar paper. Due to challenging weather and the distance from suppliers, construction costs had run well over budget, and corners were cut to get the lodge open.
Despite a lack of some amenities, the lake itself was such a draw that visitors flocked to the lodge. In 1922 it was expanded, and the tar paper finally covered with wood shingles.
