The Villard "Gold Spike" Expedition gathers at Multnomah Falls, 1883.
The Villard "Gold Spike" Expedition gathers for a photo at Multnomah Falls, celebrating the opening of the Northern Pacific Railroad, Sept. 8, 1883.
This was the last of a series of twenty-three boudoir views created by F. J. Haynes documenting the expedition as it made the first trip along the new northern line. His first view was from Fargo, North Dakota, and twelve of the scenes were at the Last Spike ceremonies in Gold Creek, Montana.
