This dramatic photo shows the size of some of the dip-nets used to catch salmon at Celilo Falls on the Columbia River.

Native Americans had gathered at the falls to harvest salmon for many centuries at the time this photo was taken. However, in fifteen years, in 1957, the falls were flooded by the creation of the Dalles Dam.
