This wonderful (and rare) early view of Lakeview was captured by Medford photographer David C. Herrin. It's wonderful because of Herrin's composition and photography skills, and rare partly because almost the whole town burned in 1900.
This wonderful (and rare) early view of Lakeview was captured by Medford photographer David C. Herrin. It's wonderful because of Herrin's composition and photography skills, and rare partly because almost the whole town burned in 1900.
Though only two business structures in the downtown area survived the fire, the town was quickly rebuilt, due in part to the financing and leadership provided by Bernard Daly. Nevertheless, almost all the buildings seen in this photo were destroyed.
Today, as the county seat of Lake County, Lakeview is home to about 2,300 people, and promotes itself as "the tallest town in Oregon", due to its elevation of 4,800 feet.
