The original for this image is a hand-tinted magic lantern slide created by Asahel Curtis, probably in the mid 1920s. By that time Lake Quinault had been a tourist destination for over 30 years.

Much of the area was managed as part of the National Forest Service; National Park designation was still more than a decade away. In this view a diverse group of visitors enjoys the relaxing atmosphere of the campground, including one very old cedar tree on the right.
