This highly detailed image of Jump Off Joe is recreated from an original glass negative made by Howard Tibbitts, one of the first (and longest serving) photographers for Sunset Magazine. Jump Off Joe was a one hundred foot high sandstone formation located at Nye Beach. It was a well-known tourist attraction, but it weathered rapidly. Its arch collapsed in 1916, a few years after this photo was taken. There is nothing left of it today.
