Elmer E. Charman, taken at about the time of his father's death in the late 1860s. Born into a prominent Oregon City family, Elmer grew up to be a druggist and businessman. Partnering with his older brother T. L. Charman, he followed in the their family tradition of being merchants and real estate owners.

With his mother, E. E. Charman owned and managed the subdivision of Clackamas Heights, at one time famous for its one-hundred-fifty foot long sign, which could "be seen for several miles in every direction". In this photo, the photographer has given him not just one but two supports to steady him for the long exposure, but he still seems to have moved his hand a bit. Clearly a young man on the go.
