City Garage on 10th Street, Portland - 1915
The crew poses for a group portrait in this view of an early garage in downtown Portland. Vehicles lining the walls include a mail truck in the back left.
Detail view 1 shows an advertising sign for Monomobile Oil, an early brand name of "non-carbonizing cylinder oil", displayed over the head of Edward Fearing, a mechanic, who owned his own garage by 1920. On his right is a man identified only as Wilson, with a great eye-patch.
Detail view 2 features an older man who appears to be the proprietor of the establishment. If you look carefully, you'll see a large circular patch on his jacket. While there are a few electric bulbs hanging from the rafters, it appears most of the light came from the multiple skylights.
