This hundred-year-old image shows a large steam shovel on rails, digging a channel to float logs for Iszett Logging Company to Hood Canal. Located in South Milwaukee, the Bucyrus Company was the premier manufacturer of steam shovels in this country. In 1904, they provided 77 of the 102 steam shovels used to dig the Panama Canal.
Bucyrus International was acquired by Caterpillar in 2011.
