We don't know the names of these people, but we can make some good assumptions about them.
We don't know the names of these people, but we can make some good assumptions about them. From photographer Joseph Buchtel's imprint on the back, including his address, we are confident the image is from shortly after the civil war, in 1868 or 1869.
All three appear to be wearing mourning clothes, which at that time were generally worn for at least a year and a day. The two young women appear to be sisters, and the man is of the age to be their father. The fact that no mother appears in the photo leads to the conclusion that she is the one who is being mourned, and this photo was taken as a remembrance of her.
