Bridal Veil Falls, the only falls below the historic Columbia Gorge Scenic Highway.
Bridal Veil Falls, the only falls below the historic Columbia Gorge Scenic Highway, are also distinctive in that their appearance has changed dramatically from earlier photos (including this one).
When this photograph was made in the 1880s, the upper tier was a good 30 feet taller and the lower tier was half the size it is now. As you can see in detail 1, the creek squeezed through a narrow notch, perhaps no more than 3 feet wide, between the two drops. Since then, debris has filled in the gap, resulting in the waterfall appearing as it does today.
