From 1893 through 1906 photographer Wilhelm Hester documented ships and shipping in Washington State, as well as Alaska scenes he captured when he joined the gold rush of 1898. Here we have a visually pleasing view of building the hull of a large wooden ship, along with a group portrait of many of the crew working on its construction.

Note in detail view 1 some of the tools of the trade, both the very long brace and bit, and the items sitting on the beam behind the lead gentleman. In detail 2 we see what appears to be the owner of the operation, judging from the quality (and cleanliness) of his clothing.
