This boudoir card image by Astoria photographer Samuel B. Crow shows downtown Astoria, looking up river, in the later stages of the devastating 1883 fire.
Built on pilings, the business section of town was especially susceptible to fires, and Astoria suffered two major ones - in 1883 and again in 1922. See Related Items below for another view of the earlier fire.
