This dramatic photo shows a two-man team welding near the top of the new Oregon City bridge. Acetylene welding supplemented the rivets that held most of the bridge together.
Of course, Ralph Eddy, the photographer who captured this scene, had to climb the new bridge to the same height. His work was made easier by his hand-held film camera, which had recently replaced the large wooden camera and glass plates he used at the beginning of his career.
