Photographer Carleton Watkins returned to the Northwest several times in the early 1880s, creating a series of boudoir cards he called his "New Views". This crisp scene shows the Post Street Bridge, which had just been built.
The title of Spokane Falls refers to both the actual waterfalls and the name of the city. The word "Falls" was dropped from the city name in 1891.
