This unusual (for the 1880s) closeup shows a pretty immaculate sailing ship docked in Portland's harbor. There is more fresh paint here than on many ships of that time.
Taken by F. J. Haynes, a photographer based in Dakota Territory, who when visiting Oregon tended to take lots of photos of the Columbia River and of the harbor. I guess there weren't a lot of tall-masted ships visiting Dakota Territory.
