Details
The long and thin proportions of this photo accentuate the slender build of the very proper waiter in late 19th century Portland.
While this was almost certainly a paid portrait, it has many elements of a purely artistic photograph, from the high contrast of the jacket and apron to the diagonal lines of the studio backdrop.
I especially like the patterns of folds in the apron, shown close up in detail view 2.
