Taking the stage coach was a popular way for tourists to visit Crater Lake National Park during the first few years after its creation in 1902. A handwritten caption on the back of the original photograph states the stage is "arriving at Pokegama Road", which is south of the Park. Thus, our travelers are likely from California.
The scene was captured by Southern Pacific Railroad photographer Howard Tibbitts, who for many year provided images for the railroad's publication, Sunset Magazine.
