This photo was taken at the time the old covered bridge was being replaced by a new steel bridge, and the railroad trestle to the left was under construction.
This photo was taken at the time the old covered bridge was being replaced by a new steel bridge, and the railroad trestle to the left was under construction. The new steel bridge, not visible here, was to the right (upstream) of the covered bridge, and lasted until it was replaced in 2013 by a new concrete bridge.
The trestle was built for the Clackamas and Eastern Railway, a short-lived logging railroad that extended up Clear Creek past Viola.
