This very early photo of a Colville mother and her infant child was taken by the Corps of Royal Engineers, likely near Spokane.
This very early photo of a Colville mother and her infant child was taken by the Corps of Royal Engineers, likely near Spokane. The baby is wrapped in the traditional way on a cradleboard. The original name of the Colville tribe is unknown - at least to me.
They were given the name of Fort Colville, which in turn was named after Andrew Colville of the Hudson's Bay Company. The current home of the tribe is on the Colville Indian Reservation in eastern Washington.
