A large crew with four two-horse teams works at putting up hay on the farm of Mr. Emory Cole.
A large crew with four two-horse teams works at putting up hay on the farm of Mr. Emory Cole near Dell, Oregon. This method of stacking hay was used on large farms, where the hay could be stacked in the fields.
Three teams are pushing sweep rakes, and a fourth team, at far right, is pulling a cable that powers the swinging stacker. Cole took over his father's place on Willow Creek, originally 200 acres, and expanded it to over 2,000 acres.
