A barge-mounted crane helps to install the center sections of steel for the new Arch Bridge spanning the Willamette at Oregon City.
A barge-mounted crane helps to install the center sections of steel for the new Arch Bridge spanning the Willamette at Oregon City. This view shows how the old suspension bridge towers and cables were used in the construction of the new bridge.
Since the river was too deep to place a platform in its middle, the combination of cables from above and barges from below were used to hoist the heavy sections to complete the arch.
