Taken by photographer E. G. Cummings of Lewiston, Idaho, this cabinet card view shows an unidentified Native American father, likely Nez Perce, proudly holding his daughter. Unlike many of the "Indian photos" of this era, the father is wearing western attire, rather than the traditional native attire often furnished by 19th century photographers.
Cummings is known for his cabinet card portraits of Native American subjects, mostly Nez Perce. The University of Washington is home to about 40 of his photos.
