This scenic view shows the west end of Guild's Lake in about 1909, before it was drained to create the industrial area we know today. Across a small neck of land to the right is the Willamette River.

We date the photo by the railroad bridge in the distance, apparently with scaffolding on its center span, which can be better seen in detail view 1. Known as the Willamette Draw Bridge, it originally had a rotating center span, and was under construction from 1908 to 1910.
Also in detail view 1 are visible three workers heading to their field of vegetables. These men are likely Chinese immigrants who had small farms along the edge of the lake.
