An unknown photographer found this spot where he could pose two timber fallers next to a skid road used for oxen to haul logs to a landing.
An unknown photographer found this spot where he could pose two timber fallers next to a skid road used for oxen to haul logs to a landing. From three to six yoke of oxen were generally used - our scene shows four yoke. It took a skilled teamster about two months to train the oxen to pull the logs.
By 1900, most ox teams had been replaced by draft horses.
