This well-composed view frames Lane Peak, in the Tatoosh Range, from the old Cloudy Crest campground above the Paradise Inn in Rainier National Park. The peak is named for Franklin Knight Lane, who was the U. S. Secretary of Interior from 1913 to 1920, and presided over the creation of the National Park Service in 1916.
The photographer, L. D.Lindsley, has his own history, as the grandson of David and Louisa Denny, two of the founders of Seattle.
