The small steamboat Blanco pulls away from the dock, probably somewhere near Marshfield, now known as Coos Bay.

According to Lewis & Dryden, the Blanco was built at Marshfield for service on the bay and was commanded by Capt. Jacob Ernst. It was likely named for Cape Blanco, located in Curry County a few miles to the south.
While the setting at first seems to be in the wilderness, the presence of the neatly painted fence suggests we're actually in a waterfront town. Also note the small trees planted next to most of the fence posts.
