The sidewheeler Ocean Wave was designed by Jacob Kamm and built in Portland. It was first placed in service in 1891 by the Ilwaco Railway and Navigation Co., and was used for the "seaside route" between Portland and Ilwaco.
In 1899 she was moved to San Francisco for use as a ferry.
