This view was created four years after the dedication of the Sunset Highway in Washington - the state's first passable route through the Cascade Mountains at Snoqualmie Pass.
The highway generally followed the route of an old wagon road constructed between Seattle and Ellensburg in 1867, which in turn followed a Native American trail that had been used for centuries. Designated Primary State Highway 2, it was officially opened by Governor Lister on July 1, 1915.
