Rolling a Large Log onto a GMC Logging Truck - 1919
Another photo in this series shows the crew loading smaller logs using a hoist, but apparently this log is too heavy for that process. A closer look at the two detail images shows how precarious the crew's methods look to modern eyes.
Note the man in front crouched under the log, and also, in detail view 2, a wedge of wood sitting on the tire that is supporting the inclined plane used to roll the log onto the truck. This is a different truck than the one in Related Photos below, as its chain drive can be seen, while the other has a driveshaft.
The fact that the photos appear as a series leads to a question: Since this truck has a 1919 license plate, and the other has a 1917 plate, is the difference because the photos were taken two years apart, or simply because logging companies did not always update their license plates?
