Almost all these guests are arriving in "automobile stages", the name usually given to these early tourist-carrying vehicles. They came from Seattle, Tacoma and Yakima, and from the nearby railroad station in Ashford.
Almost all these guests are arriving in "automobile stages", the name usually given to these early tourist-carrying vehicles. They came from Seattle, Tacoma and Yakima, and from the nearby railroad station in Ashford. Passengers are bundled up, but the stage tops are down, encouraging everyone to fully experience the altitude and the scenery.
The tourists had come to visit Paradise Inn, completed in 1916. Castle Rock and Pinnacle Peak are visible to the right in the background.
