This is the first Steel Bridge, after the lower deck was functional but before the upper deck was completed.
This is the first Steel Bridge, after the lower deck was functional but before the upper deck was completed. This was the first railroad bridge across the Willamette in Portand. We're on the east end looking west.
Like the current Steel Bridge, the first version carried railroad traffic on the lower level and pedestrians and carriages on the top level. One difference is that the first bridge was a swing-span bridge, while the current one is a lift bridge.
