The Boeing Airplane Company was founded in the old E. W. Heath Shipyard, which name is still visible on the right side of the building. This photo was dated 1917, meaning it was about the time the United States entered World War I, hence the soldiers guarding the building.
Years later the building was moved and restored and now sits at the Museum of Flight where it's called The Red Barn.
